You are probably here because you want to know what you should get for yourself :) That's also my reaction to other people's pictures, "what camera/lens/lighting/setting did they use?" 

It doesn't matter what equipment or budget size you have. It's the photographer making the photos, not the equipment. 6D wasn't made for sport photography, 4fps, 9 focal points. It just takes practice, and getting to know your equipment limitations. If you ever think your camera sucks and is the reason your photo sucks, then check out cheap camera challenge (digitalrev tv) on youtube.

Here's the list of stuff I've bought in chronological order. I don't sell my equipment, they each fill a specific need. I still use my 40D even today for some tasks. Go to borrowlenses.com to try out equipment. I thought the best combination for track photos would be Canon's 28-300mm L and 5D Mk3. I learned they weren't as "perfect" as I thought from renting it for a weekend. You can learn from either renting or borrowing from friends too. I need more friends :)
